"Figuring out how to stay hydrated and prevent muscle cramps during long runs and races has been one of my biggest challenges. In the past my muscles would ache and twitch and cause me a lot of pain after long runs. "I recently completed a half-iron distance triathlon with a brutal bike course. At the end of the ride my quads started to cramp. I nursed an e-Gel over the first mile of the run and the cramps abated. I thought it may have been coincidence, but when the cramps resurfaced at mile 7 only to resolve with another e-Gel I was sold. "I used e-Gels exclusively and exactly as directed in training for the Lakefront Marathon. This was my fourth marathon and I did not expect to PR, but just to complete it well. With the help of e-Gels taken at miles 2, 7, 13, 18, and 23, I took 10 minutes off of my marathon time and never hit the 'wall' or cramped as I had done in previous events. "I have always had a problem with leg cramps in the 2nd to 3rd hour of an event depending on intensity. I've been using e-Gel and e-Fuel since January of this year. It is the only thing that I have changed in my training and racing protocol. I did Lavaman olympic distance in Hawaii and never cramped (2nd). I did Wildflower olympic distance in California and never cramped (4th). I've done both of these races a number of times in the past and cramped every time. I haven't cramped on any long runs or rides this year. I know it is a short sample period. The combination and concentration of electrolytes in the Crank products seems to have solved my problem. "My husband and I started using e-Gel seven years ago. We had tried everything available in local stores - nothing stood as well as e-Gel for us. We are long distance bicycle riders and now motorcycle riders. Look in our packs and you will find two things, packets of e-Gel and e-Fuel and then a baggy of 'USED' products from each outing. We are always giving e-Gel to fellow riders to help when their product has let them down. The overall experience of fellow riders is less bonking and longer ride times. Now for the non-human story. My little West Highland White Terrier, Brodie, attends our rides with us. On a recent return trip Brodie seemed tired and hot as we live in Arizona. Checked with the vet who indicated some type of electrolyte product was needed. With explanation of ingredients and permission from the vet, I put e-Gel in his water bowl, added water and ice. "I have used your e-gel and e-fuel to enhance my running experience but this story is not about running. My family and I took a trip to Nepal and did the trek into Everest Base Camp. On our fourth day of treking we were at 15,000 feet and got caught in a blizzard. The temperature dropped quickly and the wind was howling. My 9 year old son started having problems. He was getting very cold, even with his storm gear on, and wanted to sleep. If we came close to a large rock he would lay his head down and try to sleep. Carrying him was not an option we wanted to use because he would have gotten colder. We tried to get him to eat some chocolate but he would not take in very much. I finally got him to eat an e-Gel and start drinking some e-Fuel. The recovery was amazing! Within 10 minutes he was talking up a storm and forging on. We were at our camp site an hour later and he was running around playing with some of the village children. I am not sure what we would have done without the e-Gel and e-Fuel. We take it everywhere with us now. " ...

I used e-Gel and e-Fuel in my training, but I saved just enough e-Gel packets to use during my marathon. At age 44, I am proud to announce that I ran the fastest marathon of my life and qualified for the Boston Marathon again for only the second time in 15 years of serious marathon training. "I was introduced to e-Gel by a fellow marathoner after I ran the Madison marathon in May. During the Madison race, as in others, I had problems with dehydration. This past weekend I ran a 50-mile ultramarathon, the second year I ran the race. Last year, I also had problems with dehydration and muscle cramping. This year, having used e-Gel in training over the summer, I used e-Gel, and ONLY e-Gel, during the race--13 packets of it--with water. Despite the day being about 15 degrees warmer than last year, I managed my hydration well AND cut over an hour off my time by being able to run 'harder, faster, longer.' I attribute the better hydration to e-Gel. Also, the larger pack size, and greater calorie count, were both assets during a long race." ...

"I started using e-Gel during my training for the Marine Corps Marathon. A running club friend suggested I give e-Gel a try. Running in the typical East Coast summer heat and humidity this summer, I couldn't help but feel the immediate bounce from e-Gel - for some reason it absorbs faster than anything else I've tried. I decided to buy a box and go with the Crank PR guarantee, and I went through the remainder of my training season with e-Gel. During that time I easily PR's a half-marathon and saw training times steadily improving. The rep at the expo told me I wouldn't have to go to the bathroom at all, after drinking 14 oz of water with the gel every 5 miles and I told him he was absolutely nuts. My usually weak bladder was in disbelief !! He was so right. What a great product I found at the LA Marathon expo booth. My stomach normally can't tolerate any of the other gels and the snacks I used to eat on the races, would not fuel my body well enough, but e-gel really agrees with me and tastes and goes down WAY better too. Amazing product-THANK YOU!" ...

"Our usual road group is 6-8 riders and I'm the only female. The goal is always to stay with the pack for as many laps as possible before dropping off the back to do my own pace. (Actually, it's the goal of the front 2 guys to see how long it takes them to drop the rest of us, but all in good fun). Anyway, my very first experience was e-Gel was that I was able to hang on for a full lap longer. I know that I can't give e-Gel ALL of the credit (sorry), but there was enough of a difference in the way I felt to make the permanent switch from any other sports gel. Also, your article on hydration was a big help in understanding how this stuff works with what's already in my system. I used the e-fuel the second half of my ride (as recommended) and I'll be making the switch there as well. It mixes easily with water, so I didn't get any surprise clumps (like, gag)...." ...

A friend handed me a packet of e-Gel on a training run since I had run out for the last 8 miles of a 18 mile run. Crank gave me the extra energy to finish my run and feel great. I was hooked on the feeling as well as the taste. I used e-Gel the next six weeks of my training and during the marathon. Needless to say, Crank's guarantee was a success. I had my best time ever in my twelve years of running marathons and finally qualified for Boston! Who would have ever thought I could get faster as I got older!! "On July 8th I rode the Prouty 100 mile fundraiser for cancer at Dartmouth in NH with Debbie Chase and Carrie Nourjian. We finished in 6 hrs and 40 minutes and felt great the whole way thanks to e-Gel and e-Fuel. kept a consistent energy level during the ride by switching from e-gel one hour to fuel the next. Not bad for 3 women around 50 working fulltime trying to make time for rides in-bewteen busy schedules. There were 2000 riders that day who raised over a million dollars for cancer research;great effort everyone. The most important thing for me to mention about the use of the e-products is that I never have stomach problems or cramps anymore, can feel the energy instantly after ingesting either the liquid or the gel and always feel like I can keep going even when I am tired from a long ride. e-Fuel is great to drink while spinning inside during the winter also. I had moderate success at the race and continued to use the product. I did not use e-gel at all for the first race.
